MemBrain Plus
2000: Advanced formula for the 21st century mind
Edmund R. Burke,
Ph.D.
The combination of
busy lives, years of memories and the bombardment of the information age
causes us to often forget the simple things - where we parked the car or
what time our dentist appointment is next week. Aging plays a role
too. According to Cameron Stauth, co-author of a new book titled
Brain Longevity, the human brain shrinks by 20% during its lifetime, starting
at about age 18 to 20. Scientists agree that memory and cognition
(the capacity to think and reason) can decline as early as the fifth decade
of life, even in people who are clinically healthy. T2000 introduces
MemBrain Plus 2000 Formula to help the memory, stimulate the brain, or
just provide a general sharpening of mental ability. This is a complete
formula that helps support brain circulation, sharpen concentration and
give you that needed energy boost during the day.
Ginkgo Biloba
and Ginger
By far, the best-selling
supplement for the brain is ginkgo biloba. Ginkgo biloba comes from
the leaf extract of the ginkgo tree, oldest tree on earth, often found
as garden ornamentals, or along city streets. Germany and France
have used standardized extracts of ginkgo biloba to treat cerebral insufficiency
since 1965. It is accepted by the medical community in Europe and
is widely prescribed there by doctors. Much of the research on ginkgo
biloba has been conducted in Germany where it is used widely.
Ginkgo biloba works
by increasing the blood circulation in the tiny blood vessels of the brain.
The effects attributed to its use include improved memory, reasoning and
alertness. Its efficacy has been proven through significant results
obtained from more than 40 controlled trials. According to Ward Dean,
M.D. and John Morgenthaler, authors of Smart Drugs and Nutrients, many
human studies on ginkgo have been published demonstrating that it "works
by increasing blood flow throughout the body and brain. Ginkgo increases
the production of adenosine triphosphate (ATP, the universal energy molecule).
It also improves the brain's ability to metabolize glucose, prevents platelet
aggregation inside arterial walls by keeping them flexible, improves the
transmission of nerve signals and acts as a powerful antioxidant”.
They add that it has been shown to be helpful for short-term memory loss,
depression, tinnitus, slow thinking and slow reasoning. Combined
with ginger, ginkgo has also been shown to reduce stress-induced anxiety
in rats. The combination of the two herbs is the subject of German
research that may have human-use relevance.
Ginseng
Ginseng has shown
mental enhancing effect and has been used for years by athletes to increase
stamina. Studies by Christina Benishin, at the University of Alberta
department of physiology in Edmonton, however, show that an individual
ginseng component called ginsenoside Rb1 acts favorably in reversing memory
deficits by increasing the secretion of acetylcholine (a nerve transmitter).
In addition, Bulgarian studies on rats suggest that ginseng extract improved
learning and retention processes.
Schizandra
This highly prized
Chinese herb is fast becoming a best seller in the United States because
of its reputation as a longevity herb. Since ancient times, schizandra
has been favored among the wealthy Chinese. Until recently, this
herb has been rare and expensive, but today it is widely available in China
and the United States.
Similar to ginseng,
schizandra is also believed to increase stamina and relieve fatigue.
It is also used to treat stress and depression. According to one
study, athletes given schizandra performed better, and showed better physiological
responses to stress after taking the herb.
Gotu Kola
Gotu kola is a brain
and memory tonic from ancient India, and is often sold combined with ginkgo
in brain and memory formulas. It is believed to affect
brain functioning
by reducing stress and anxiety through its mild tranquilizing effect. Few
scientific studies exist on gotu kola (unlike gingko biloba, which is well
researched), but at least one study shows it to improve concentration.
Amino Acids –
Glutamine
Although the use
of amino acids is usually attributed to body builders, some of the aminos
are known as smart nutrients also. For instance, Dr. Mindell recommends
the ammo acid L-Glutamine as a brain booster, and T2000 Gold includes this
substance in its MemBrain Plus 2000 Formula. L-glutamine is the precursor
for glutamic acid manufacture in the brain. Other amino acids are
also essential in building neurotransmitters in the brain, and low levels
of amino acids in one's diet can result in tiredness and lack of concentration.
Kola Nut
Kola Nut is an herb
that contains caffeine. Caffeine is the most widely consumed supplement
in the world. Some researchers have suggested that caffeine acts
only to remove the boredom of a given situation or task; others attest
to caffeine's positive effects on several cognitive functions. Still
others show conflicting results based on gender. I tend to side with
those who contend that cognitive benefits come from caffeine use.
Forget-Me-Not
As the baby boom
bulge moves through early middle to late middle age, interest in keeping
the brain running smoothly will build. During the 20's and 30's,
keeping in top physical shape and looking good were priorities. However,
as the population ages, and middle age spread becomes inevitable, keeping
the mind in peak condition will be the priority. T2000 Gold
MemBrain Plus 2000 Formula is a proprietary blend of herbs and amino acids
that will energize the mind, sharpen concentration and increase mental
clarity.
